Twinmusix got to speak to Björn Strid from The Night Flight Orchestra about their upcoming tour and more.

TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix, and we are here with Björn Strid from The Night Flight Orchestra. Thank you for having this interview with us today, We appreciate it.

BS - Thank you.

TM - What can fans expect from your Australian tour?

BS - We last came to Australia two years ago, and we had such a great time. I think this time will be better, especially since we have our new album out, "Give Us The Moon", which has got a great response. I feel like our fan base in Australia has grown since we came out last time. I feel like we have grown as a live band, and we are better now. We have new glitter outfits and new songs, and a great setlist, and we cannot wait.

TM - Who designed your costumes?

BS - We come up with the ideas ourselves, and then we have a seamstress create them. Our minds are always spinning about improving the show so we can get the full concept of the band.

TM - What is your favourite song to play live?

BS - "Divinyls" is a song that a lot of the crowd sing along to. We were just doing a European tour in February, and we did a lot of songs from the new album. "Cosmic Tide" from the new album is quite a tough song to do, so I love doing that one, it is one of my favourite songs from the new album. I also like"Paloma", it is a cool song to play live because it is stripped down in the beginning and is a mood setter.

TM - How have fans responded to your new album "Give Us The Moon"?

BS -
Really good, it has been quite a journey since the passing of our dear friend and guitarist David who I formed the band with. We needed some time off to grieve both as friends and band members. We tried to pick up the pieces and turn this into something uplifting and creative, and I think we succeeded. It has been a long journey and a tough one, and what came out on the other side is really special, and we are really proud of it. I hope we are making David proud as well, and I believe he showed people who were doubting us that we could pull this off.

TM - Sorry for your loss.

BS - Thank you.

TM - What was your writing and recording process for "Give Us The Moon"?

BS - We went to the same studio as before, Nordic Soundlab, and we record all of the albums there. It was quite special going back there, we didn't know what to expect at first, and it was quite empty, and then it turned into such a creative time and turned into something really positive. We remember David's life, and it needs to be celebrated. We have been writing demos separately, and it has been coming together in the studio. A lot of things happen in the studio when we get together. We also hang out, which is a big part of it. We book the studio for long weekends and do sessions, and then we get there and cook and drink and record some songs, and there is a really great vibe in the band, and that has helped a lot through this process. I think you can hear that when you listen to the album.

TM - Who designed your album cover?

BS - My wife Georgia, did the cover. I had this basic idea, and she developed it, and it turned out amazing. I love the colours, it is one of those covers that you can look at for ages and still find new things. If you look closely David is represented on the cover. I think she has done a terrific job.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be, and would it be in your style or their style?

BS - It would have been awesome to have ABBA do one of our songs in their style in their heyday. They are still doing quite well, the latest album was pretty good. Back in the late seventies it would have been cool to hear them do one of our songs.

TM - Who was the first band or Artist you saw live, and can you tell us a story?

BS -
I saw some Swedish artists in the Eighties that you might not know. My first rock or metal show was "Carcass" in 94, and they were on the "Heathwork" tour, and that was really cool.

TM - Did they inspire you to play?

BS - Yeah, I love that album, and it was very inspiring. I like the melodies and the thrash and death metal, it was ground breaking, We were really inspired by the album. We even started my other band "SoilWork" because we got inspired by the album name "Heartwork". We liked how it looked, it was a short name, and we just changed Heart to Soil, so it was inspiring.

TM - Who is your favourite band you saw live?

BS - I saw one of Elton John's last shows in Stockholm, and it was insane, and his family was there.

TM - I agree, I love Elton John, his tour was fantastic.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

BS - If you haven't picked up our new album yet, please do, and if you have, thank you. Come and see us live because that makes everything fall into place and gives dimension to what we are doing. We are looking forward to seeing you.

TM - Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

BS - Thank you.
