SOULFLY INTERVIEW

Soulfly.jpg

Twinmusix talk to Max Cavalera from Soulfly about their new album and more

TM - What can fans expect from your new album Ritual?

MAX - Our fans can expect a really solid soulfly record. I think it shows all the elements that makes soulfly what it is, we went back to our earlier sound the tribal kind of Groove stuff mixed with fast and the aggressive stuff and made it kind of had both. I don't think there are many records out there that have that so Ritual is one of a kind tribal death thrash.

TM - What was your writing and recording process for Ritual?

MAX-  I wrote all the riffs at home like I always do, then me and my son went and jampad and worked on the riffs. By the time we got to the studio we knew them really well and then we did the rest of the stuff in the studio. Josh our produce that was a huge fan and was trying to get me to go back to those early tribal grooves so we wrote Ritual, By The Bullet and summoning. I think the album has a fresh feeling to it. We start our ritual world tour next year and I'm sure we're going to play a lot of stuff off this record so it's going to be cool.

TM - What was your favourite memory from playing Europe?

MAX - We played a lot of great shows a lot of headline shows which is really cool. Slovakia and Scotland my favourite memory as it was on my birthday. Then we played a festival in Poland, soulfly played the day after Judas Priest.

TM - How did you come up with your album cover for Ritual?

MAX - Eliran Kantor designed our last album in this album cover. I love his unique style, it is very metal and they all look like museum pieces he presented. He presented the first idea except I didn't like it, he presented the second idea of vultures and I didn't like it and then and then I came up with the idea of an arrow shooting at the sky and then we liked it.

TM - How did you come to get signed by Nuclear Blast?

MAX - Our contract finished with Roadrunner records and we only needed a new record label. A bunch of it labels were interested and we knew Nuclear Blast was the most metal label they support you and help you with tours.

TM - you've worked with Max and Igor Sepultura and Soulfly how do you find it working with all these different projects?

MAX - I think Sepultura is more metal and sofly is more tribal group and killer be killed is more Melodic with three singers. I think it's fun having all these projects it keeps me Sharp and relevant in the metal world each project. I gave my heart and soul too and Killer Be Killed we have a demo ready for next year so we will prob be releasing a album next year at some point.

TM - If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?

MAX - I have a bucket list Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, Rob Halford from Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne, Codeorange and King Parrot.

TM- If you could have any band play one of your song's which band would it be which song would it be and would be in your style there Style?

MAX- Black Sabbath performing Roots Bloody Roots or eye for an eye.

TM- Anything else you want to announce to your fans?
