Twinmusix talk to Morten Veland from sirenia about their new album and more

TM - How are you

MV - I am good how are you?

TM - I am good too thank you, how was your night been?

MV - It has been quite busy the last week or so, we just got back from Russia and had to release parties for our new album. I returned with a full email inbox and tried to get as much work done as I can. We head out to a European tour just Sunday so there's definitely a lot going on and its cool of course.

TM - What was your favorite thing about your launch party?

MV - Meeting our fans playing our new songs for the first time and see how our fans responds to them. We had a fantastic time and had some singing along to the new material,  even though the album was released the same day we had one song that was released a few weeks before it was amazing to see and always a pleasure.

TM - What was the writing and recording process for your new album Arcane Astral Aeons?

MV - It was pretty much the same as every other time. I do most of the recording myself and I have my own recording studio at home, it is very convenient for me to come and go as I like. I spend as many hours as I want working on stuff, it has become very convenient and less stressful. I remember when we started out in the 90's and you had to rent a studio

you always worried about the clocks the hours and you also had to be to effective you were always under pressure that can affect the way you get things done. These days it is different you don't have to worry about time and a Studios always open and it makes it alot easier.

TM - You have some European shows coming up, what can fans expect from them?

MV - They can expect a diverse setlist of new songs old songs and songs have never perform live before and songs we haven't sung in a while.

We just want from a 4 Piece Band to a 5 Piece Band and we are really happy to have a new guitar player with us and we are having a good time.

TM - How has adding a fifth member changed your music style?

MV - Getting Nelson is a great thing for us, he is a great guitar player, he has done some awesome new guitar riffs stuff for our album. We didn't have a live guitat player in the past and now I'm taking care of the bass and then I started playing Bass on the first couple of shows I realised how much I missed it.

I am playing bass for as long as I've been playing guitar, I recorded face on every album since 1996 so im use to playing bass but not on stage so in August was the first time i played bass first time on stage.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your song's what band would it be what song and in your style or theirs?

MV - There was this one artist that has been with me since I was a kid my parents are a huge fan and I've listened to him my entire life and still do, he died a few years ago now and that was Leonard Cohen he could do one of our songs in his style.

TM - Whats your favourite memory touring?

MV - We were in Argentina in small music venue and a PA system wasn't that big, we pushed it to the maximum limit the whole show and the whole room was singing to the lyrics guitar solos and melodies. At one point we could only hear everyone seeing you couldn't even hear yourself playing and it was a real funny and expressive experience.

TM - What is your favourite festival you have played?

MV - Graspop metal meeting is one of them they played about three times there Masters of Rock in Czech Republic they have a fantastic lineup for every year and always take care of their artists.

TM - Graspop always has a killer line up, so does hellfest. You should come to Hellfest sometime.

TM - Is there anything else you'd like to announce to your fans?

MV - Cheers and thanks to the Australian fans for all the support over the years, i really really hope it will be possible for us to come back to Australia soon. We have only been there once I know next year we have some shows in asia so hopefully we'll be able to drop by at Australia after.

TM - Hope to see you in Australia soon.
