Twinmusix got to speak to Dale from Seether.
TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix, and we are here with Dale from Seether. Thank you for having this interview with us today. We appreciate it.
DE - Thank you.
TM - You brought out your new EP "Beneath The Surface", how have fans responded?
DE - The EP is going pretty well. The fans seem to be pretty into it, and it sounds like Seether, so there are no complications.
TM - You have two new songs and two old songs on your new EP. How have fans responded?
DE - I think they responded pretty well. Those were songs that we recorded for the last album, and they were songs that we wanted our fans to hear. It is always sad when you record a bunch of songs, and they never see the light of day. We have a few songs that have never been released, so we thought we would take this opportunity to get some new music out to the fans and not lock it in the vault, and never to be heard again.
TM - What was your writing and recording process for "Beneath The Surface"?
DE - We are spread all over the country, so we email each other. Sean will come up with music, then we will listen to it and give him our feedback. We listen to the music and work on our parts. We have the music ready to go when we get into the studio. In this day and age, you don't have to get into a room together. These days, you can record it, email it, and it is instantly on the other side of the country being listened to. Back in the day, we physically got into a room together and ironed the ideas out. These days, when it comes to recording, it's about laying the music down and setting the tones and the sounds of the drums and the rest of the instruments.
TM - Are you working on any new music?
DE - We are always working on new music. I don't know if we will do a full length album. I feel the world is changing a lot, on how music is consumed. I feel like everything is singles driven. You could put months of energy and time into writing a whole album of music, and the singles will get airtime, and the other nine songs will hardly ever get played or see the light of day. It makes you think, why don't we just put all our energy into two or three songs and release them on the radio and socials and then tour on the back of the singles. That's something we are talking about right now.
TM - You are going on tour with "Staind and Hoobastank", what can fans expect?
DE - We have known "Staind" for a long time, and we have never done a tour with "Hoobastank". It should be good getting all the old guys out there, and we cannot wait to go for a walk down memory lane. We will play some of the good old songs, and we are still releasing new music. "Staind" are releasing new music, so the tour will be current. There will be something there for everybody. I am looking forward to it, and I think it will be fun. Ticket sales have been really strong.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs, what band would it be, what song would it be, and would it be in your style or their style?
DE - I think it would be fun for a band to do our song differently and in their style. I am thinking "Twenty One Pilots" mabey doing "Remedy" in their style.
TM - If you could go back in a time machine and see any band live, who would you see?
DE - I think I would go back and see Pantera in their heyday. I went over to my cousin's house, and he was like you have to hear Pantera. I was into Guns and Roses and AC/DC. Then he put on Vulgar Display of Power, and it fried my 12-year-old brain. I was like this is amazing and it changed my life. I never got to see them as Pantera broke up just before we got to the United States. Vinnie and Dimebag were touring with Damageplan, and they were doing festivals that we were on, so we got to hang out with them. Then we hung out with Phil and Rex at OzzFest, so we got to meet these guys individually. I would want to go back to 1990 and see a full Pantera show, that would be awesome.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
DE - Thank You for hanging in there and coming along on this long ride with us. Thank you for hanging in there and buying the music, and letting us do this as a job and make a living. Thank you, we appreciate it.
