Paradise Lost
TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix, and we are here with Paradise Lost. Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
PL - Thank you.
TM - What can fans expect from your Australian tour?
PL - We will try and cover as much ground as possible in the set. We have a few albums to represent. We also brought out "Ascension" last year, so we will play a bit of that. It should be a pretty eclectic set.
TM - What is your favourite song to play live?
PL - At the moment it is our opening track that we are playing at festivals, it is also our opening track on our newest album "Ascension". I like playing it as it has a moody intro and then a slow crushing part, and then there is a fast part, so it is very well-paced and brings the audience in. It is a cool song to play live.
TM - Do you have any pre-show rituals?
PL - These days it's just that you are warmed up and all your technical equipment is working. We do try and have a bit of a laugh before we go on stage. We take the music seriously, but everything around it we don't take seriously, or it is like a Spinal Tap situation.
TM - What's your favourite tour memory?
PL - Last year we went out with a band called "Misery Loves Co." There were big industrial fans on stage blowing air towards the audience. We were in this big old theatre, and the bass player decided it would be a good idea to open a can of fish and load it on the fan and blow it towards the audience. The audience and the singer were projectile vomiting everywhere, and the venue had to be closed for 6 months to be fumigated and refurbished.
TM - *laughs* that's so bad, but funny at the same time. I'm glad I wasn't there.
TM - Who was the first band or Artist you saw live, and can you tell us a story?
PL - It is going to be a band that not a lot of people know, because it is very specific. I was thirteen years old, and my brother was seventeen years old, and he was into punk music and also some metal music. I used to borrow his collection, and he took me to see a band called "English Dogs". They were a hardcore punk band from the 80's and he took me to that, and I was terrified, but I love the music, and it got me into playing music.
TM - Who is your favourite band you have seen live and can you tell us a story?
PL - We have played with some bands like Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. Last year we got to play with a band called "Trouble", and they were some partygoers, and I was amazed. I grew up listening to them, and they were a big influence on me. They played before us, and I went up to watch them. They opened with a track called "The Tempter", which is my favourite track by them. Someone took a video of me watching them, and I was grinning from ear to ear. I was transported to being sixteen again, and it was awesome.
TM - If you could go back in a time machine and see any band live, who would you see?
PL - Besides Black Sabbath in the early days, I would go and see Celtic Frost in 1985 when they did their "To Mega Therion" album. I love power three peices. I would love to see Motorhead with their original line up.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs, what band would you choose, what song would you choose, and would it be in your style or their style?
PL - We have an album called "Host" which we did at the end of the nineties, but not a lot of people like it because we did a lot of different stuff on there and changed our style for that album. We have a song on the album called "Nothing Sacred", and I think that is a good song. I would like a band called "Dead Can Dance" to do it in their style, the style of their music is rock, medieval, and goth. It is hard to describe their music.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
PL - Thank You for the invitation to come to Australia. We have not been there in almost ten years, so it is going to be good to get back there in October and do some shows. Thank You for being patient, and we hope you enjoy the show.
