Mother Mother Review

Mother Mother, Total Tommy and Ula played at the Hordern pavilion on Saturday night to eager fans of all ages and the fans were buzzing with excitement. All three bands set a high bar with a fantastic dynamic set.

Total Tommy kicked off the set with "ADELINE, microdose and Amsterdam" and the Crushing Vocals, Blaring Guitar riffs and Crashing Drum beats had the crowd put their hands up in the air and they were swaying along. As they continued blasting "Spider" and "Real", the instrumental breakdowns were flowing through our bodies and the introspective lyrics and powerful melodies captured the attention of the fans. As they finished off their set with "Losing Out", it gave us the charge we needed for the rest of the Night.

Next to hit the stage was the legendary Ula from Sydney, and she brought an infectious energy to the crowd. As Ula kicked off the set with "Scandal, Just a Gimmick and Goldstar", her vocals soared through every track, and the stripped down guitar and booming Drums brought an upbeat tempo.

Ula continued with "Nosebleed and TWYI" and the loud and energetic songs got the crowd moving and the infectious guitar hooks and perfect vocals received a roar and applause from the audience. Ula Sang Teenage Dream originally by katy Perry, and the fans sang along and it was a great fun upbeat moment.

As she finished off her set with "Futon, Temple and God Complex" we knew why Mother Mother brought her back out on tour and it was amazing to see, that she got to live her dream of playing the Hordern pavilion.

Mother Mother are a Canadian indie rock band from Quadra Island, British Columbia and they immediately had the crowd in the palm of their hands. As Ryan Guldemond on lead vocals and guitar, Molly Guldemond on vocals and keyboards, Jasmin Parkin on vocals and keyboards, Ali Siadat on drums and Mike Young on bass hit the stage they got a warm welcome from the fans.

Mother Mother kicked off their set with "Nobody Escapes, Arms Tonite, Hayloft II and The Matrix / Where Is My Mind?" and the Powerful Vocals, high-voltage guitar and rocking keyboard harmonies filled the room. They continued the set with "Problems, Explode! And Back to Life" and the upbeat songs got the crowd moving and the blistering burst of energy filled our souls with happiness.

Mother Mother continued to echo through the venue and we got to rock out to "Video Games that is originally by Lana Del Rey" and it was greeted with a high pitched scream of excitement. As they continued with "Bit by Bit and Body" the Fast paced Guitar and hard-edged Drum beats perked up your ears and the crowd’s response was thunderous. The set made us feel like we were watching a set of fireworks and it made joy run through our veins.

Ryan told his fans that "Sleep Awake" was the first song he wrote for his sister molly. As she sang the song, the fans turned on their phone lights and lit up the venue like the night sky and we got to listen to a crowd favourite. Next up was an epic Mash up of songs "Dirty Town, Neighbour, Wisdom, Ghosting, Little Pistol and It's Alright" and the fans were Dancing around the venue. Then they continued with "Oh Ana".

Ryan said to the crowd it was his birthday tomorrow so the crowd sang him Happy Birthday. Then a fan held up a phone saying Shoey and Ryan took off his shoe and said they were is gig shoes so they would be sweaty. He did a Shoey on stage and Mother Mother continued playing "Wrecking Ball". They continued kicking through hit after hit and continued with "Verbatim and Hayloft" and the hits brought their own levels of indie rock that lifted the Hordern to a new high and brought an energetic haze.

Mother Mother walked off stage and the crowd started chanting one more song. Ryan came back on stage with an Acoustic guitar and started playing "Grief Chapter" and the rest of the band walked on stage and joined in. As they finished their set with "Burning Pile" Nothing could compare to the energy in the room and it captivated the audience from the first chord to the last. Every band on stage delivered a great set and we cannot wait to see them hit Australian shores again.
