Memphis May Fire - Matty Mullins

TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix and we are here with Matty Mullins from Memphis May Fire, Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

MM - Thank you.

TM - What can fans expect from your Australian tour?

MM - It has been a long time since we have been there and we have progressed so much as a band in the last decade since the last time we came to Australia. It will be a different experience. We are going to bring a bunch of new music and a bunch of old music. We are headlining with Atreyu the show is going to be a special night.

TM - Do you have a favourite song to play live?

MM - "Infection" would probably be my favourite to play live.

TM - How did fans respond to your new album "Shapeshifter"?

MM - It has been amazing it has probably become our most successful album yet. It is cool to say you have been in a band for eighteen years. We just finished the headlining tour in America called the "Shapeshifter" tour. The tour of us for the new album it was amazing, we had a bunch of sold out shows.

TM - Congratulations on the sold out shows. What was your writing and recording process for "Shapeshifter"?

MM - It has will write everything instrumental and I write everything vocal wise. It is written in a similar way that we wrote our previous album "Remade in Misery". The only real difference is, we will blocked off time and not let anything get in our way or distract us for making the best record possible and make the best record that we are proud of.

TM - How did you come up with your album cover?

MM - The album cover is a compilation of all the single covers we have released. A lot of singles from this record eight of the ten songs are singles and every single had a piece as it's cover and all of those pieces are revealed in one big scene as the album cover showing these shapeshifter and the figure of the shapeshifter itself battling all these seasons of life and things that are weighing it down which is what the actual album is about as a whole so all of the pieces from the covers come together for an album cover.

TM - How did you come up with your video for "Hell Is Empty"?

MM - "Hell Is Empty" is a Shakespeare quote, but I think it is very relevant in today's age "Hell is empty; all the devils are here" is the original quote oftentimes will relate Evil to Satan, The Devil, The Devil Horns or a pitch fork and I think that is so much evil around us currently with the state of the world you don't have to look to Another Realm like he'll to see so much evil so we wanted to create in the video are well that is falling apart and it is happening very physically in the music video but the dramatically it's meant to represent our current state of our world falling apart around us and not needing to look to help her so much evil just removing the Veil from your eyes and seeing it right in front of you.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be and would it be in your style or their style?

MM - Shinedown play "Make Believe" I would love to hear them do it in the style. I am a big fan of the band and a big fan of Brent Smith's voice. I think if anyone can make that song 10 times better than I already is it would be them it would be really cool to hear.

TM - Who was the first band you saw live as a kid and can you tell us a story?

MM - The first band I saw live was my brother's band when I was a kid. My brother was a musician in a band and we had a handful of local bands were we grew up in Spokane Washington so that would have been my first concert and my first twenty or thirty concerts just watching him perform.

TM - Who is your favourite band you have seen live?

MM - My favourite band and my favourite band that I have seen live are BlindSide from Stockholm, Sweden. They put out some of the most influential records for me, when I was learning to sing and scream and weaving in and out of singing and screaming.

Christian Lindskog from BlindSide was my biggest influence and I went to see them on "The Great Depression" Tour. It was an incredible show one of the best shows that I have ever seen i don't know if anyone can too it.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

MM - We feel honoured to come back and perform for you all. We are bringing our a-game VR performing a show that is really exciting and we can't wait to see you.

TM - Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

MM - Thanks for having me.
