Hellfest, the holy grail of music festivals. Some, may say it has even surpasses Wacken.
Hellfest is held every year in the small town of Clisson, which is situated in the middle of vineyard country in France. Nantes is a short train ride from the festival and is home of the giant elephant which is a must see stop on your way into the gates of hell. This year Hellfest was celebrating its 13th year and man did they put on one hell of a line up including Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and The Hollywood Vampires.
Hellfest is not just a festival, it is an experience! The festival leaves a lot to the imagination as they add a new feature every year. This year Hellfest added a water feature that spelled out "Hellfest" among many other things.
At night Hellfest turns into a true playground with fire twirling, constant flames shooting off the roofs of the bars and merch stands. Hellfest has an atmosphere that is near impossible to replicate.
Iron Maiden were founded by bassist Steve Harris in the mid ‘70s, and they have smashed it out of the park since. Iron Maiden are one of the most influential bands of this century and they certainly know how to impress their fans. With over 90 million album sales, more than 2000 live performances in 63 countries, millions of fans and 16 studio albums, they have certainly left their mark on the metal scene as one of the greatest bands ever.
Judas Priest entered the gates of Hell this year. Judas Priest was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1970'S, they have released 29 albums over their career. They have become one of the most successful heavy metals bands of all time. They have released albums such as British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, and Painkiller. They have also released hits such as Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, and You've Got Another Thing Comin. They have changed fashion over time, they made the "leather biker look" popular. Judas Priest performed a wide selection of songs at Hellfest, including songs from their new album "Fire Power".
Hellfest is without a doubt, one of the best metal festivals in the world. With the perfect sound coming out of the speakers from every angle and the food stalls, which are so extensive that you can pick any cuisine your heart desires. The festival goers interact with each other and everyone becomes one big family, and the layout of the festival with unique features makes this festival one on the most desirable in the world.
