God Dethroned

TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix and we are here with Henri from God Dethroned, thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

HI - My pleasure.

TM - You are bringing out your new album 'The Judas Paradox' What can fans expect?

HI - Fans can specs diversity, we never do the same album twice so every God Dethroned album is different from the one before. There is my typical signature embedded in the music but it is original and there is a lot of diversity. We have some fast and aggressive songs on the album, we also have some mid-tempo bass some melodic songs and some atmospheric tracks as well. If you are in two diversity you are listening to the right band. If you listen to this album it will take you through the highs and lows of the music and the different atmospheres it makes it like the experience in the old days when you would listen to an album from start to finish. I realised a lot of people just listen to Spotify playlists these days and some people will only listen to our singles and not the rest of the album but for the fans of Dethroned, it is a great album.

TM - What was your writing and recording process for your new album?

HI - I think it was completely different this time. In the past, we would always meet in the rehearsal space to try out new ideas but this time we worked from our own house and sent ideas over the internet and then we started recording and we did the same the drummer recorded in his own house. We did guitars at home and when everything was finished they would send it to me and I would do the mix and then the album was finished. We were not in the rehearsal room once in the whole album, so that was strange and now the album feels organic and spontaneous.

TM - How did you come up with your Album cover and is there a meaning behind it?

HI - The album cover is a painting that is in the Rijks museum in Amsterdam it's called 'The Fall of the Rebel Angels'. We chose to use a painting this time instead of new artwork you are allowed to use paintings as album covers as long as you mention the name of the painter in the booklet of the CD and on the vinyl. We thought the painting for the album cover fit well with the music of the album.

TM - Do you write on the road or at home and in the studio?

HI - I don't write on tour I write at home being on it as a black metal band being on a tour bus is cramped you are normally on tour with two or three bands there is no privacy on no space to write your songs. I normally write songs when I get home and I come back from tour and have the energy from the past live crowds to write an album.

TM - How did you come up with your new video for 'The Judas Paradox'?

HI - I found out there were two stories in the Bible about Judas. I didn't know that. I don't think many people know that everyone knows the one story where he is being portrayed as a betrayer, but there is a second story in the Bible about another disciple and he wrote that Jesus could look into the future and know what would happen he knew that he had to die to return as king of the world and Judas would be the chosen one to fulfil this task that's made Judas innocent because he did that from free will and that's what the song is about and it was difficult to show all those details in the video so we re-enacted The Last Supper.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs, what band would it be, what song would it be and would it be in your style or their style?

HI - When you play a song I think you should do it in your own style. We once did 'Evil Dead' by Death we did it in our own style it was a very recognisable song by Death we played it with the last beats because we thought it would fit. It would be great if a band like Oasis played one of our songs like Soul Capture 1562, it would fit them as well. I would never expect to eat band to play a song that wouldn't fit them.

TM - What was the first band you saw live can you tell us a story?

HI - It was a band from the Netherlands called Normaal, it was a style called Farmers Rock which is rock and roll music by farmers. They are really popular and huge crowds come to see their shows they are normal people and always present themselves as one of these guys. I was around 15 when I saw them it was my first show and it was awesome and everyone had a habit of throwing beer at each other in their shows people would buy loads and loads of beer and throw it through the audience people would get a beer shower throughout the whole night not just once from start to finish. People would spend hundreds of dollars to throw beer at each other And the band still exist I think the last show got 50,000 people.

TM - Did they inspire you to play live?

HI - Yes, definitely Aussie bands. I saw before I started a band that inspired me to play Livem. I saw the first European tour of Morbid Angel, Paradise Lost and Cathedral all these bands that came by I was just old enough to go and see all these shows you would go to these shows and there are two bands on tour and the venue was packed and it will just be so special. Then it became more normal the tour agencies would put more and more people on the lineup for people to go and see this show.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

HI - I would like to thank everyone who has checked us out and followed us through the years and check out our new album. I think it will be great and you will love it and I hope to come to Australia for a tour next year.

TM - Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

HI - Thank you.
