Dirty Honey

TM - Hi this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix and we are here with John from Dirty Honey, Thank You for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

JN - Thank You.

TM - You are coming to Australia what can fans expect?

JN - Fans can expect a great time. We are a high energy rock and roll band and every night is the best show I can give.

TM - What can fans expect from your setlist?

JN - You are going to get a mix of music from all the albums we have put out.

TM - Are there any tourist attractions you want to see in Australia?

JN - I was just told that Melbourne has AC/DC Lane and it is a good coffee town so that is exciting. We also love to go to Byron Bay and people say Melbourne is cool so we are excited about that.

TM - You brought out can't find the breaks in 2023, how did fans react?

JN - Fans reacted overwhelmingly positively and I think it is our best album to date. what else can you ask for that's what you hope everyone says every time you make a record.

TM - What was your writing and recording process?

JN - It was kind of like before when we do a gathering of personal little ideas and riffs and small nuggets of music and we work on them in sound checks on tour. Right before the recording session, we do a pre-production session. For 'Can't Find The Breaks' we went to the studio for three weeks about three or four times a week. We saw a lot of songs through the finish line and even songs that didn't exist at all like 'You Make It All Right, were born spontaneously and Can't Find The Breaks'.

TM - How did you come up with your album cover?

JN - An artist called Risk has been an artist in the graffiti world for probably thirty years. We played a party for a fan he hired us to play his party and as a gift to us, he had risk made us custom paintings. He also made us a super rad neon sign and then we had the idea let's see if he can come up with an idea for the album cover. He did his own thing. We had different ideas we wanted him to do more something like the neon sign. He did his own thing and it was really special he painted that by hand And we filmed it and photographed it step by step so the cover is a picture of a painting not a digitally created item so it is pretty rad.

TM - Are you working on any new music?

JN - We always have little nuggets of ideas. I think we might go into the studio this time and do something that we have never done and go in the studio and start from scratch. It's not an official recording session for the album we just thought we were going to be in Australia and we are going to be in Byron Bay. We thought we would stop into Nick's and see if we could come up with some magic it will be a different experience this time. It will be very experimental. It's almost going to be like our pre-production that we usually do here at my house but we are going to do it in the studio. It could be exciting. In the past, we have done it before, but this time we are just going to mess around and see if we come up with anything.

TM - What was the first band or artist you saw live and did it inspire you to play music?

JN - I got inspired to play music by going to a Phish Festival, that's where I found live music. I was affected by how they fans they had. They weren't a radio band. I didn't understand how it was possible because I only knew radio and internet bands. This was the early 2000s before Phish retired for a little while, just seeing them and seeing that fanaticism behind their music. They were a counterculture band that was impactful to me. I realised at that moment you can do it, however you want as long as it is true. You can find people it will resonate with.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be and would it be in your style or their style?

JN - Steven Tyler singing 'Another Last Time' they could do it however they wanted. If they did that song that would be pretty cool. If AC/DC did 'When I'm Gone' that would be cool.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

JN - We love you and appreciate the support and we can't wait to see you in Australia.

TM - Thank You for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.

JN - Thank You hope you have a good day.
