DELAIN INTERVIEW
Dutch symphonic rockers Delian have been releasing and performing their signature catchy melodic metal sound worldwide for over a decade now. The five albums on their name include guest performances from the titans of the scene, among others: Sharon Den Adel (within temptation), Marco Hietala (Nightwish), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Burton c. Bell (Fear Factory).
The band is currently working on the follow up to their chart hitting record moonbathers, due 2019. Bridging the gap between studio records is their first ever live dvd “a decade of delain - live at paradiso” released October 2017, and - proving themselves to one of the most productive bands in the game - delain are releasing an exciting new EP and blu-ray called hunter’s moon on February 22nd, 2019.
TM - What can fans expect from your new album Hunter's Moon?
DN - It is a special release I wouldn't call it a full studio album. We started out with the idea that it should be an EP, we wrote a couple of songs for it and we had our recordings from our tour last October from my home town. We loved recording it so much. It was the first time we got to take Marco on tour with us and it was so great to have those collection of songs featuring him. He wanted to add it to the release so it's not a new album it's for new trucks and 10 live trucks so I think it's hot a lot to offer.
TM - What was your writing and recording process for the four new tracks Hunter's Moon?
DN - This album is different to the way we usually do it. The new upcoming album was written by Martijn, Chris and myself. I wrote the lyrics, Martijn arranges and produces the tracks. The other two songs were written by our other two guitarists, they wrote and produced the tracks. I came in for the vocal lines which is different because they took the front seats in producing those tracks which is new and pretty cool.
TM - How did you come up with the Album Cover for Hunter's Moon?
DN - I always have the honour to do the artwork for our albums. I am a big art lover so I always keep an eye on artist and art I really like.
TM - You said you are also writing a new album have you started yet and how is that going?
DN - It is going really well, we have about 7 songs ready to go and a bunch of ideas that need to be worked on. We have a few writing blocks coming up so we can get the proper amount of songs for the full album. We do everything in separate blocks now, we don't write and record the album in one go. After those blocks we rerecord everything work on everything and produce everything. I get the lyrics and vocal lines down. I do that at home now it is really convenient so I can do it when I feel like it and edit it mysmself. It is very different it gives us a chance to work on the tracks, when the inspiration is there so we're not feeling like we have to get everything done in a month and it's go go go.
TM - You toured it with Nightwish can you tell us any tour stories?
DN - It is always wonderful to tour with them, we have a long history with Nightwish and we like working with them. They like working with us, i am a big fan of Floors voice touring with them is a joy and thetes alot of interaction between the bands.
TM - You have had guest vocalist marco from nightwish and Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory what's your favorite part about working with these musicians?
DN - They are very talented and they have worked in music for a long time. The longer you work with music, the more you get set in your ways of doing things for us it was a big surprise.
We would hand them apart or give them a song and usually it was pretty much done. I would sing the lines, we thought they could sing they had the demos and we were always surprised by the outcome. It is always wonderful to hear something that you have been working on and giving it to someone that you admire and they make it their own. It is a very rewarding process it's very cool and I hope we can keep doing that.
TM - How did you come to get signed by Napalm Records?
DN - We were doing our internet release and we looking for a new label to sign us. We had talks with the label and had offers from several labeld. We had a really good feeling with Napalm Records and their offer was good too they like the bands they are working with and the music.
TM - If you could have any bands play one of your songs which band would it be which song would it be and would it be in your style or their Style?
DN - Nick Cave doing Where Is The Blood in his style.
TM - If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?
DN - Nine Inch Nails.
TM - What's your favourite memory of watching someone else perform live?
DN - Radiohead because it is my favourite band in the world. I have seen them a couple of times and it's always amazing.
TM - Anything else you want to announce to your fans?
DN - We have a good Vibe going on and we are working hard and hope everyone enjoys our new music.
