Twinmusix got to speak to Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth about their upcoming tour and more.
TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix, and we are here with Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth. Thank you for having this interview with us today. We appreciate it.
DF - Thanks for having me.
TM - What can fans expect from your Australian tour?
DF - As you all know, it is a co-headlining tour with DevilDriver and Cradle of Filth. We tested the formula for two tours in the United States, and it works very well. People can expect the best of both bands, big production, big venues, and a lot of energy and excitement. We are looking forward to the cooler weather, because Europe is in the middle of a heat wave.
TM - What can fans expect from your setlist?
DF - They can expect an eclectic setlist. We will be touching on our last record, which was not released last time we hit your Shores, so obviously you can expect a bit of that. You can expect a bunch of songs from our back catalogues, so fans shouldn't be disappointed. There will be fan favourites, our favourites and songs we have to play.
TM - Are you working on any new music?
DF - Yes, we are currently in the studio, and when we are back from Australia, I will be starting the vocals on our new record, which means the majority of it is already recorded. Hopefully, it will be released sometime next year. I am just touching on that briefly because we haven't even entered that period yet.
TM - Do you have any pre-show rituals every night before you go on stage?
DF - I have my own pre-show techniques that become ritualised, like warming up. You have to get into a routine, especially if you are caked in make up. You have to time everything perfectly. I like to be ready early so I can get into the mindset. I hate being late for anything, so I usually get ready three hours before the show.
TM - Who was the first band or Artist you saw live, and can you tell us a story?
DF - Strangely enough, it was in my hometown of Ipswich in the UK, the first person I saw was Ozzy Osbourne doing the "Ultimate Sin Tour". My friends and I were thirteen years old, and we lined up in the morning, and we had sandwiches, and our jackets with patches on. We had a speaker playing "Crocus", which was really exciting for me. Ozzy Osbourne played a really cool set, and a few weeks later, I went to see Twisted Sister.
TM - If you could go back in a time machine and see any band or Artist live, who would you see?
DF - If I could go back in a time machine, I would change my career. I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I would be an astronaut or an F1 driver, see what I had to give up.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs, what band would it be, what song would it be, and would it be in your style or their style?
DF - I would have to go with someone really bizarre like Justin Timberlake to see how horrible it would be. Maybe Iron Maiden. I love all these weird collaborations. We have the Ed Sheeran song coming out soon. We have Bring Me the Horizon, Twisted, and 69 Eyes. I like the weird juxtaposition of working with people and people going what the f*** how is that going to sound. There is no point in doing something with a band that sounds like us, the weirder the better.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
DF - I think most of the venues are almost sold out, if you are thinking of coming, get your ticket now, so you won't be disappointed. It will be an Australian event. Thank you to all our supporters, it means a lot to us. I am excited that we can travel to the other side of the world and see our fans. That is what musicians dream about, we are really appreciative. The Australian audiences are always really cool, and it is always a spectacle, and people go nuts.
