CANDLEBOX REVIEW

Candlebox, a 90'S era Seattle band, graced our shores at the metro theatre last night and put on an epic show, accompanied by The Black Cardinals and Bad Moon Born.

First up was The Black Cardinals, an indie/pop and hard rock band from Sydney. As The Black Cardinals kicked off the set with Secrets Out, Gravity, Broken Man and Love on the Rise the exceptional bass lines and drum rhythms made you want to rock out. They continued playing Switch Me Off, Come a Little Closer, Give Me Something, and Demons. With massive riffs, powerful vocals and sharp lyrics, the kick ass band impressed everyone in the crowd.

Next to hit the stage was heavy metal band Bad Moon Born with Promised Land, Chemical Lullaby, and Witch Trials As they played their set they delivered massive riffs and vocals as the driving force. As they continued to play Alive, Road Warrior, Road and Carry On the bass and drums filled the venue with a solid rhythm and it was a head turning set. It certainly got everyone ready for the next set.

As you looked into the crowd you could see the excitement on everyone’s face and they were ready for Candlebox. As the headliner walked on stage, they kicked off the set with Dont You, Blossom, Supernova and Best Friend. The dirty distorted guitar riffs and feedback bounced off the walls of the venue, and the grunge sound took you back to the 90'S. As Candlebox played Change, the reverb was prominent and it broke into a strong part during the choruses

As they continued with Breathe, Arrow, Stand, Elegant Sometimes, Mothers Dream and He Calls Home, the crisp sound and memorable choruses were sung back to the band.

The songs were energetic with fast drumming and the harmonised guitars showed me this band was powerful and knew how to play. The songs were bouncy with upbeat rhythms..

As Candlebox played their ballad Cover Me, there was great strumming and picking. As they continued with Far Behind, their incredible vocal intensity showed off everything the band rocks at, and the crisp riffs and fantastic middle incredible climax made you headbang to every minute of this song.

As Candlebox played their last song You, a radio hit from their first album, the lyrical rhythm and choppy drumming made the crowd rock out.
