Twinmusix interviewed Stevie D from Buckcherry about their new album and more.
TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix, and we are here with Stevie D from Buckcherry. Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
SD - Thank you.
TM - What can fans expect from your new album "Roar Like Thunder"?
SD - The last couple of albums, we ran a much bigger production with big drums, big guitars and lots of layers of everything. On this album, we stripped down everything and had a more raw Rock and Roll sound. We had one guitar on the left and one guitar on the right and the Drums, and the Bass Guitar and the Singer were the only major layers. We have background vocals for shouting or a big vocal sound. I don't think we wrote anything with a specific goal in mind. The album needed to have these vibes, and we just wanted to have great rock and roll songs on this one.
TM - What was your writing and recording process for "Roar Like Thunder"?
SD - The last three albums were produced with Marti Frederiksen. We used to do demos all year long and cut down all the songs into a ten song album. We have a music language now that works so quickly. We can write an album for 2 weeks in September, and that's what we did this time. Then we recorded it in another two weeks, and then in another two weeks it's mixed and mastered. The main writers on this album are Josh, Marti and I.
TM - How did you come up with your Music video for "Set It Free"?
SD - A director called Tom wrote a story that featured a live performance of the band. The storyline goes that there is a young artist painting and gets frustrated in the middle of creating, and then takes a list conventional way of painting and is more cathartic to "Set It Free".
TM - It is a cool video.
TM - Are you coming back to Australia with this new Album?
SD - We were just there near the end of last year with Rose Tattoo. The US is the first inline, then the UK and Europe and then Japan and Australia, not necessarily in that order. We didn't have Japan last time so we want to make it out there this time, and we want to make it to New Zealand aswell.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be, and would it be in your style or their style?
SD - I recently heard this country kid, I can't remember his name, but he did "Crazy b****" in a country western fingerpicking Style. I would love to hear someone like Brad Paisley do "Crazy b****". I have heard Kid Rock do "Crazy B****". I would have loved Prince to do "Crazy B****" but that will never happen, maybe AI can create something like that just for fun, I don't know.
TM - Who was the first band or Artist you saw live, and can you tell us a story?
SD - The first show I saw by myself that my dad didn't take me to was Ozzy Osbourne, and I went with my friend. At that time Randy Rhodes was playing guitar and Tommy Aldridge was on drums. It was at Poplar Creek amphitheatre, it was about half an hour away from Schaumburg. It changed my life, I was playing guitar, but I knew then what I wanted to do with my life. A few years later, my graduating class ceremonies were at Poplar Creek amphitheatre, which was an outdoor venue and you would walk across the stage. I remember stopping at stage left where Randy Rhodes stood. I was a kid, and I was like, I can feel his vibe here, this is where he stood, I'm going to do this. A few years later I had just got to Hollywood, and Jake E Lee left the band, and Ozzy Osbourne was holding auditions in North Hollywood. I ended up going out there to audition, and I played with Ozzy, Randy Castillo and Phil Soussan, and I played four songs with them.
TM - That's so amazing, your story is legendary.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
SD - Thank you for sticking with us, loving us and supporting us since day one. We have had nothing but success with connecting with you. We love you guys, and it is a priority for us to get over there. We will see you as soon as everything lines up for us.
TM - Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
SD - Thank you.
