AversionsCrown2020a.jpg

Twinmusix got to speak to Jayden Mason from Aversions Crown about their new album and more.

TM - Hi, it is Elizabeth and Amelia from Twinmusix. Thank You for having this interview with us today. How are you?

JM - Good thanks, how are you guys?

TM - We are good, how's it going?

JM - It is going pretty good, apart from the weather change here at the moment. I'm alright, just feels like it's snowing, but it is not.

TM - Yeah, it is pretty cold here too.

JM - Pretty bummed that all our gigs are cancelled this year.

TM - Hopefully by next year you will be touring again.

JM - We hope so, we were meant to do some US shows.

TM - If you get a chance do Europe and Japan.

JM - Japan is amazing, it's one of my favourite places. I have been a couple of times.

TM - If you get a chance go to their robot restaurant, it's awesome.

JM - All of Japan's restaurants are so cool, they have crazy themed restaurants.

TM - What can fans expect from your new album Hell will come for us all on June 12th?

JM - The biggest change will be the vocals, we have a new vocalist on board with us now. He has taken over for quite some time and working with us on this new record. In terms of what to expect, it is still Aversions Crown. It is still fast and heavy but there has been a change with the vocals and lyrical content. We started to wrap up the sci-fi on the last few albums. We are approaching a new way of what we are singing about on this album, so we hope everyone likes it.

TM - What was your writing and recording process for your new album Hell will come for us all?

JM - It has been the same for every album in the pre-production stage. We take writing pretty seriously, we don't just go and sit in a random room and start jamming until we come up with something. Chris writes most of our music, writes extensively and writes a lot of riffs. Chris gets everything together and then we sift through it and rewrite sections.

Then I program the drums and go back and forth with Chris. After that we got Tyler to sing the vocals over and over again till we got the timing correct. We took a bit longer to write it but I feel like it sounds better and a bit more mature.

TM - You are signed to Nuclear Blast, how did that come about?

JM - In 2014 when we were recording Tyrant, a good friend of ours Andy Marsh from Thy Art Is Murder helped us record Tyrant and write parts of it. I'm pretty sure what happened is, he got talking with Monte one day and said this is another band coming out of Australia and it sprung up a conversation between the band and the label. We formed a relationship from there. Working with Monte was a big fangirl moment for us, it is awesome to work with Nuclear Blast.

TM - Congratulations on being signed to Nuclear Blast.

JM - Thank You.

TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be and would it be in your style or their style?

JM - I would love to hear Meshuggah play one of the songs in there style because I think it would be a wild ride. Or maybe BabyMetal that would be sick.

TM - Watching Babymetal play one of your songs would be awesome, they are amazing live.

TM - What is your favourite memory of watching someone else perform live?

JM - I'm a drummer so I like watching other drummers play live. My favourite memory was watching "Aborted" play live, ken is one of the best drummers in the world. I have been staying in touch with Ken over the internet for ages. I remember the first time I saw "Aborted" play live, I got a headache from watching him perform because he is so insane. I just can't fathom what he does. I was like this guy is way too good at what he does, watching a drummer at that level motivates me to play how I play.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

JM - Anyone who supports me personally or the band, I can't Thank You enough. Thank You for messaging us and always supporting us no matter what. We had a line-up change, Thank You to the people who have stuck with us no matter what. We have a big appreciation for everyone and we hope everyone likes our new album.

TM - Thank You for this interview today and we can't wait to see you start touring again.
