ARCHSPIRE REVIEW

Werewolves, Ingested, and Archspire played a killer set at the factory theatre last night and this lineup was unbelievably refreshing to hear. The venue was in absolute chaos, and the songs were supremely awesome and also catchy.

As the Werewolves howled onto the stage, we were amped up for this set. The enthusiasm in the room was bouncing off the wall and we were ready to go. The set started off with Know Your Place, No More Heroes, Sublime Wartime Voyeurism and Under the Ground the songs were infectious, the guitar hooks snapped necks and the music was quick enough to break the sound barrier.

As Werewolves continued with Crushgasm, Crushing Heaven's Mandate, Showering Teeth and I Don't Like You the set was full of brutal riffs built for speed, and agility. The passion in the room was extreme and the music was delivered armed with an axe. Werewolves were an epic band to watch and they are a must-see name of both the Australian and the worldwide Black and Death Metal scenes.

As the alcohol ran through our veins, we were ready and rearing to go, this mosh pit was ready to explode with Ingested. As Ingested kicked off the set with Impending Dominance,Invidious and I, Despoiler the crowd banged their heads to the crushing drums.  This set was nonstop action, adrenaline, and in the form of their legendary creations.

As Ingested continued to play Shadows in Time, Skinned and Fucked and Echoes of Hate we were blown away by their performance and outrageous brutal breakdowns. Seeing them live was an absolute blast.

Archspire came on stage and electrified the audience. The fans were thrilled to have this epic Canadian band on stage. This was the Metal Injection, everyone had eagerly been waiting for.

As Archspire played Bleed the Future, Abandon the Linear and A Dark Horizontal it buried us under an avalanche of blast beats and technical extremity that flew at the fans at warp speed. As they continued to play Remote Tumour Seeker, Golden Mouth of Ruin and Human Murmuration it showcased the band's dynamic songs and they proved they could play fast tempos and heavy intense riffs.

Oli Peters brought a unique sense of comedy to the stage, as we watched the set Oil got out the twister spinning board and told the mosh pit to their hands on red, blue, green, yellow and wall of death, the fans laughed and the mosh pit begun.

Oil also got two fans up on stage for the chance to win a t-shirt, all they had to do was a shoie. The winner ended up winning a hand drawn t-shirt from the band.

As Archspire continued with Calamus Will Animate, Involuntary Doppelgänger and Drone Corpse Aviator the catchy and brutal layering of the guitars made us never want to leave.

Every moment of this set was thrilling. This show was a terrific technical death metal extravaganza, wirls of skull-crushing riffs and storms of frantic, drilling drumming, guided by a terrifying vocal performance by a singer that absolutely tears apart so many of his contemporaries. It was absolute death metal gold, and you are missing out if you don't see them live.
