Twinmusix talk to Olli-Pekka Laine from Amorphis aout their new album and more
What can fans expect from your new album Queen of Time?
I think there are of elements of the past but also some new elements and a lot deeper.
What was your writing and recording process for Queen of Time?
Everyone has their own ideas and writes a lot of stuff in their home Studios, then we book a studio and share all of our ideas and then we book a rehearsal place and jam. We have very long days when we record and all record together.
How did you come up with your album cover for "Queen of Time"?
An artist who did our last album cover also did this one, We gave you my some ideas about what the lyrics were about and he created it. when you look at it, the cover looks simple and I like it alot.
Can you tell us about order gear you use?
kemper amp, Tube amps, Mesa Boogie, ESP guitars, Gibson.
If you could have any band play one of your song which band which song and in your style or their style?
Pink Floyd playing one of our songs in their style.
In 2015 you played Waken to celebrate your 20th Annvisery of "From the Thousand Lakes" what was it like playing there?
It was great and we all played on a down tuning.
How did you come to get signed by a Nuclear Blast?
Our first label was relapse records in the United States, the distributor in Europe was Nuclear Blast.
There has been a lot of speculation to what type of metal you are what do you think you are?
If we categorise ourselves then we would have to put Gates or limits on what we can do and we don't want to do that so we are called Amorphis metal.
Can you tell us a tour story with Nightwish or Arch Enemy?
It was great to tour with Nightwish we got to open with for them and play in huge venues that we have never gotten to play before.
You haven't always embrace the history of your homeland in your music, how important is it to talk about your history and heritage?
That idea came to us because we started listening to a lot of 70s rock and folk rock music, he just felt what was unique and went to that own thing, it's just Timeless and universal.
Anything else you would like to announce to your fans?
We would love to come back to Australia because it was a dream and we went there a few years ago.
