Twinmusix talk to Amenra about their Australian tour and more
What can fans expect from your Australian tour?
We always try to give the people the experience of a lifetime. Open Everyones eyes, and touch their hearts. Leave something behind. We’ll do no less on this tour.
How did you come up with the setlist for your tour?
We try to bring a diverse number of songs, Giving a proper image of what we do,
Songs taken from our third album on We aim to strike hard, yet mend and dress the wounds.
What was the writing and recording process for Amenra Mass VI?
Slowly but surely.
It was the first album where Levy our bass player, contributed in the songwriting. He took most part for his account. He Locked himself in his room for a couple of months and came out with a blueprint of what came to be Mass VI.
After this we recorded with Billy Anderson, flew him over to Belgium. We locked ourselves in the studio, during one of the worst Belgian snowstorms in a long while and so we could fully commit to it.
How did you come up with your album cover for Amenra Mass VI?
A close and extremely talented friend, Stephan Vanfleteren took the series for the album artwork as well as the band photographs for this run. It was important for us for it to be a whole. It always is, He really understood the music, and therefore was able to capture it into an image, The dead swan, Gracious but fierce in the hour of her death, Beauty in all its facets.
What Instruments do you use (brands and model Numbers)?
I mainly play a Gibson Showcase Edition Les Paul Standard Silverburst. This was a special run that Gibson did in 1988 and the guitar originally had EMG pickups, but that didn't work for us, so I switched them to Gibson humbuckers.
My other guitar is a GCI, which is Kurt from Converge's brand. The body's all maple and it's heavy as fuck. In that guitar, I have a Bare Knuckle Brute Force pickup.
For amps, I use an Ampeg V4B through either a Mountain or a Mesa 4x12" with V30's for the heavy sounds and a Shift Line Twin preamp for the clean sounds. The Shift Line preamp goes straight to the front of the house, but on stage, I run it through a Fender silverface Twin Reverb for monitoring purposes.
If you could choose one of your songs titles as a biography title for your band what would it be and why?
A solitary reign. We have always been the underdogs, and I believe we still are Mostly because our kind belongs nowhere and everywhere at the same time
If you could have any band play one of your songs which band would it be which song and in your style or theirs?
Massive Attack. Whatever song they’d pick. I’d love.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
Beth Gibbons from Portishead, or Warren Ellis (Dirty three, Bad seeds). Because they are a genius, Emotionally driven and Passionate.
What is your favourite memory with your fans?
Favourite I don’t know, but memorable. The time's someone started crying in my arms, after they tell me their story of loss.
What's your favourites memory off watching a different band play?
I remember seeing the Gutter twins once, on a festival. I was miles away from the stage, people were being annoying and chatting around me and I just didn’t care. I connected with what was going on on stage and fully engulfed and Magic at that moment.
You played Roadburn Festival whats your favourite Memory from that?
Just hanging out with all of our friends, the atmosphere is always unmatched. Like a yearly reunion, with everyone.
The year we played two nights in a row was beautiful, to hear thousands of people being all silent in the acoustic set, where you hear a cup fall to the ground And the night after where we played with Blood moon. Memorable.
Anything else you'd like to announce to your fans?
Looking forward to get out there.
