HOW DID YOUR FANS RESPOND TO YOUR EP “JUICIO ANIMAL”?
First of all, Juicio animal (The animal trial) is the name of one of the songs from the EP, that we called "DAR" (means give) and we released a video clip for that song. Fans dind't expected the change in the sound that we developed for this EP.
We have seen our fan base grow since the release of the video, the feedback has been awesome! We think that we've chosen the right songs this time...although some of our fans might think it's too short, we think it's just fine. We are also excited to announce there is a "part 2" of the ep coming out this year.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT WITH YOUR FANS?
After we play, there's always this moment when we go out of the backstage to watch the other bands, and a lot of people that we don't know, they come to take pictures, saying they loved the show, they give us some advice, most of them are musicians too, so...it's really cool to know that people that are working with music likes our work in a personal, subjetive way...not just for the technique or the gear we use.
HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED?
There's been a lot of changing since the 2 guitar players left the band, now Vander has only one guitar live on the shows, but we reached that point where you just want to make the right thing for the sake of the song, it doesn't matter if somebody has to play one note the whole song...in music, sometimes, less is more...and that's one of the most significant changes if you compare this EP with the previous album "Dios mate a la reina" (God kill the queen)
WHAT BANDS INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
Ok, we could go for an hour in this subjetc...but, let's make it quick...ehm...foo figters, rancid, nofx, artic monkeys, Thrice, dream theater, idk..
WHAT BRAND INTERMENTS DO YOU USE?
Fender for guitars or bass
In stomp boxes we keep trying different brands but you can always trust a Boss Ds-1 and a SansAmp bass preamp
Drummer uses a Pearl drum kit signature whatever hahaha...Zyldjian cymbals
HOW DID YOUR BAND FORM? AND HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC YOU WERE GOING TO PLAY?
The vocalist, Chelco, started this band with some of his friends, but, as we said at the beginning of the interview, the 2 guitar players left the band, cuz they wanted to play another kind of music.
Chelco instead of giving up the whole project, got in touch with an old friend, that's when Paul entered the band, and with yamil now in the drums, the work flow is great. Everyone was willing to sacrifice their ego to get the best results possible for the song writing process or at the composition stage. We are still developing our own style, even thou we know which way we're going...every day we have more and more resources to work with.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME AND LOGO?
Chelco is also an architect, and he is a huge fan of Mies Van Der Rohe`s work, he just took part of his name to make Vander. It's a short word that has the same pronunciation in most of the languages.
so...the band needed a name to star releasing material, that came up real quick...the logo is as simple as it looks, the V from Vander, 2d, monochromatic, sophisticated look it's just what we wanted...that's what we wanted to show...no that regular post-teenagers band...but a grown up people taking real life choices and with a lot of years in music. A serious project.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BAND SOUND IN THE FUTURE, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A SIMILAR SOUND OR ARE YOU GOING TO GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION?
We know that, as our fan base keeps growing, we shouldn’t be making any significant style changes in a short period...right now we are pretty happy with the way songs are coming out, so we're going keep the sound and style of the band for a little while...there are a lot of things that we didn't include in any of our releases yet, so...there's a lot more that we want to show before we take another direction.
WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU OVER COME AS A BAND?
We think that remaining active most of the time is one of our hardest challenges. From hard work...songs and shows will come along.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU ALL KNOWN EACH OTHER? HOW DID YOU MEET?
9 or 10 years ago I (chelco) met Paul. i was looking for a guitar player for an old Punk band we used to have...it didn't worked out at that momento, but we got back together for this project (Vander). Our sound ingeneer insisted that he knew the right drummer to fit the band, and that's when we met Yamil. Before him, the old drummer left the band, so...the spot was available after the recording of the first album
TELL US A RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT FANS DON’T KNOW?
We all love Football (Soccer)
WHO WRITES THE MUSIC IN YOUR BAND OR DO YOU ALL WRITE IT TOGETHER?
At the beginning it was me (Chelco) the one that wrote all the songs, but the Paul joined in, and now we teamed up for this...we seem to work faster this way...finding the right words to fit in the melody’s...you know...
DID YOU START OFF WRITING YOUR OWN MUSIC OR DID YOU START OFF DOING COVERS?
We started playing our own songs since the beginning, we almost never play any covers...it's a rare fact in our shows.
ARE YOU SIGNED WITH ANY RECORD LABEL’S? IF YES WHO?
The first album came out thanks to Bestiaro Records, two years later the label was gone, but they're still booking live shows. We don't have any record labels or deals, and it's kinda cool to work in our music without that pressure
COULD YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC MAKING PROCESS?
It's pretty simple; in fact we think most of the bands should get through the same steps. Somebody comes out with a Riff, or a chord progression, and the others just start to the idea of what the song is going to be all about. Then things start to flow. When the backing harmony is done, then we're ready to try some lyrics over it.
WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU SIGN ABOUT IN YOUR MUSIC?
It's a pretty large range, but it's mostly some serious shit...from politics, the preservation of our environment and biodiversity, to personal issues any people could have, like friendship or even some neighbourhood club
IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY BAND, PERFORMING YOUR SONGS, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WOULD IT BE IN YOUR STYLE OR THEIRS?
Oh we would really love to see the Foo Fighters performing our songs...we think they would match the style.
AS WE ARE PROMOTING YOUR BAND, IS THERE ANYTHING COMING UP LIKE ALBUM LAUNCHES OR TOUR DATES YOU WOULD LIKE US TO PROMOTE ON OUR SITE FOR YOU?
It would be a great chance to let you guys know that you could cop our last EP that's available on CDBABY.COM and to check our last music video out too, Jucio Animal.
On April comes the second part of this EP, it's called "Recibir" and it comes with another 3 songs and one of that songs it's going come out with a music video too.
