HOW DO YOUR FANS DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?

Usually Folk Metal, or Viking Metal. We were recently told we are really accessible because of our clean-cut appearance (no long hair or beards, except for Karl), and are the best band to see when on a date with a non-metalhead.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC VIDEO AND WHY?

Can’t speak for the other guys, but my favourite music videos are any of the videos for Steven Wilson’s solo records, particularly “The Raven that Refused to Sing”, “Drive Home”, “Hand.Cannot.Erase.”, “Perfect Life”, and “Routine”… couldn’t pick a favourite!

He usually gets involved with the directing of the videos and treats them as art pieces. Dude knows how to tug at your heartstrings. I also love Lana Del Rey’s music videos, particularly “Born to Die”.

WHAT’S YOUR CRAZIEST FAN STORY?

Can’t say we’ve had anyone going through our garbage or anything yet… but we do have some dedicated fans that will travel insane distances to see our shows! We think that is crazy!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT WITH YOUR FANS?

Probably our recent Sydney show, which was our first sold-out show as head-lining band. The crowd was wild, Hopefully more to come!

WHAT BANDS INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?

A lot of European bands that I could list for an hour, but some of our favourites are Wintersun, Ensiferum, Opeth, and Blind Guardian. We also love Australian bands Karnivool and Pendulum, and have some Jazz influences like Django Reinhardt, which shows in our tunes sometimes.

WHAT BRAND INSTRUMENTS DO YOU USE?

The boys use Ibanez Guitars, I use Warwick Bass guitars, Karl plays Tama drum kits.

HAVE YOU CHANGED ANY MEMBER’S SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

We started with a different drummer, Karl has been with the band for about 4 years now, and for a brief period we were a six-piece, with a third guitarist, and a dedicated vocalist.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME AND LOGO?

The band name is from Tolkien’s lore, it’s elvish for “Bitter-sweet”. Our current logo was a commissioned piece by one of our artists, Roel De Jong, from the Netherlands www.facebook.com/roeldejongdesign

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BAND SOUND IN THE FUTURE, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A SIMILAR SOUND OR ARE YOU GOING TO GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION?

Our next CD The Fall of Akrylla (also our first full-length record), will be a no-holds-barred epic concept album. Over 52 minutes of symphonic wank, roaring choirs, and technical instrument work, all weaving a tale of high-concept pseudo-sci-fi fantasy. We haven’t started working on material for the second album yet, but we have started throwing some ideas around…

TELL US A RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT FANS DON’T KNOW?

I was an extra in the movie “Babe 2: Pig in the City”, dressed as a farm-boy. Sir Ori and Sir Jordi are brothers. Karl is lactose intolerant.

WHO WRITES THE MUSIC IN YOUR BAND OR DO YOU ALL WRITE IT TOGETHER?

The tunes are primarily written by Maestro Sir Ori, with some small contribution from the rest of us occasionally.

COULD YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC MAKING PROCESS?

Well, I go about my usual business whilst Sir Ori slaves away in his beat-lab. Usually the process will start from an idea, like a melody or guitar riff, and everything is built up from there. Usually the orchestra will be written first, followed by the instruments, then the lyrics.

DO YOU EVER CHANGE YOUR LYRICS DURING LIVE SET?

All the time. I love to throw in a subtle “meow” here and there, to keep the audience on their toes. But seriously, most of lyrics will stay the same during our live shows, I perform monologues between our songs though, which I constantly change from show to show.

WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU SING ABOUT IN YOUR MUSIC?

All things fantasy, and geek culture. Tolkien lore (Lord of the rings, The Hobbit), video games (Skyrim, Gothic), Anime (Dragon Ball Z, Avatar), and TV (Game of Thrones). The concept of our next CD is a fantasy tale that we have written ourselves.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY BAND, PERFORMING YOUR SONGS, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WOULD IT BE IN YOUR STYLE OR THEIRS?

Oh definitely The Killers. In their style.
