HOW DID YOUR FANS RESPOND TO YOUR NEW EP POWER TO THE PEOPLE?
We’ve received awesome support from everyone so far. The song bites directly into the modern social situation both in Russia and Globally. That makes it interesting. It makes you think what a single person can do to oppose the whole political media circus crap we live in The song tries to spark people to do something good in your life.
If you are a writer – write the best book you can
If you are a student – take the best from your studies
If you are a politician – be true to your voters
Each of us can create a little miracle by simply doing something in a good and honest way and being true to themselves. This is the real ‘Power’, which everyone possesses and how we wanted to convey our message. The people of the world can act and change their lives, if they want to.
WHAT BANDS INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
This could be a long answer )) Honestly, we love music and we love artists who made records past and present. Our ‘music trunk of artists’ is full of rock, pop, grunge, classic, alternative, blues, country, punk, indie, etc, etc. But if you take me (Gleb) to an remote island and ask me to take only one band with me that would be The Cure. Great band. Just great. Love it.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG YOU HAVE EVER WRITTEN?
All of our songs are like children, so it’s hard to select our favourite child )) I would say probably ‘You Walk in Beauty’ – a rock ballad which we turned into modern sound by straitening the beat and adding synths. We are still working on the new version of the track, but it feels a little more of a Gangster’s Paradise vs One Republic type song. Meanwhile you may listen to the old version on our Soundcloud page:
DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW MUSIC COMING OUT IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Yes, a lot of tracks coming in 2017! We started working with a leading Russian sound producer Alexander Pantykin aka ‘Sunny Swan’ who helped us rethink and flavour our material to more modern and danceable artists. Our plan is to release at least 5 new songs next spring. Together with the current batch of tracks, this should give us material for our first LP. Although we live in a ‘singles’ market, we wanted to make a full LP and get to that milestone as a representation of the path we have taken over the last 4 years.
WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR LYRIC CHOICES?
We have two major topics in our lyrics: Love and Social problems.
Ideas for both come from our personal experience. While the first topic is more positive as we are settled persons in terms of relations, the second one is the thing we research and discover with our lyrics and that we see in dark colours.
One of our songs Broken Dreams was our response to the MH17 tragedy in Ukraine.
Escape from the Office represents the work ‘cage’ we live in with responsibilities and financial dependency.
Update is a drugs abyss story influenced by Breaking Bad.
WHAT'S YOUR CRAZIEST FAN STORY?
We played as an opening act for ex-My Chemical Romance legend ‘Frank Iero’ during his Russian in tour in St Petersburg. There were around 1500 screaming 14 y.o. (girls mostly).
At the end of the gig we were leaving the club from the VIP back door Frank’s fans caught us sneaking out. There were around 100 wild fans asking for autographs and selfies etc.
I don’t know whether they thought we were part of Frank’s team or not, but we felt like superstars for those few minutes). After a while somebody shouted “Frank is here” and they all disappeared within a second. We used this opportunity to escape to catch our train))
HOW HAS YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC CHANGED FROM WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED?
Dramatically! First, we started as a cover band. (We still play covers at corporate parties now) playing brit-pop music (Oasis, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, etc). Then we added heavier repertoire, like 3 Doors Down. At that moment we started writing our own material. Our original drummer Andrey Ischenko (now with Arkona) was into all forms of heavy metal. Deep down he was not made for indie type of music we were thinking of. This ended in a classic rock sound we started with and then migrated to indie rock, which you can hear on our first tracks on our EP ‘Take a Deep Breathe’.
Then we turned another page in our chapter and landed in dance-rock land. Our latest track ‘Lolita’ is a danceable pop-rock song. This dance-rock as we call it now is our style for the next few years at least.
WHO IS THE SONG WRITER IN YOUR BAND? OR DO YOU ALL WRITE IT TOGETHER?
Originally we have two song writers: our lead singer, Gwyn Thomas and our bass player, Gleb Korneev. However last year we wanted to beef up our song production line and we formed a song writing camp with the help of some other friends in the music industry. Essentially this is a group of 6 people who work together on 2-3 songs both from lyrics and music perspectives. We get together weekly to see the progress and produce 2-3 new songs in 3 months.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING GIGS?
We have just finished the 2016 season with a series of gigs in several Moscow clubs.
After the Christmas period we will fix a couple dates in the Spring for the next gigs.
Also we want to focus on a new show program. We started seriously thinking of what and how we do on the stage and we see the difference in the reaction from the audience.
So the next gig should be something legendary, like The Wall at least J)))
