HOW HAVE YOUR FANS RESPONDED TO YOUR EP ‘FORSAKEN’?

The EP’s been really well received by fans and friends. It’s helped us get on some great bills with amazing local and interstate bands and it’s catapulted our presence in the local scene. We’re really proud to have a quality recording that holds it’s own with what’s out there now. I feel it showcases our diversity as a band. There’s a mix of songs we started off with 7 years ago like ‘Sever’ to others more recently written such as ‘The Underdog’.

HOW HAS YOUR SOUND CHANGED AND EVOLVED SINCE YOU GOT TOGETHER IN 2010?

Firstly we’ve started writing a few shorter songs! Being a riff driven band we have a tendency to write longer songs. We’ve come to realise the importance of having some punchy, focused and in your face tracks too. We’ll never compromise our style in any way, but there’s a stand out section about 5 minutes into ‘Primal Urge’ that some people just may not get to and that’s a damn shame. In terms of sound, I’ve started utilising screams in my vocals more as I’ve gotten better at them. There’s myself and Craig on guitars, so we use harmonies and layering wherever we can without going too overboard. Also since Christian (drummer) has recently jumped on board, it’s as though the band has picked up it’s stride and found a whole new level...of confidence...and power!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC VIDEO AND WHY?

As a comic book nerd, I’ve always loved Todd McFarlane’s animated music videos from the 90’s like Korn’s ‘Freak on a Leash’ and Pearl Jam’s ‘Do the Evolution’. Also, every Tool video. Those guys know how to pick a theme and stick to it.

WHAT’S YOUR CRAZIEST FAN STORY?

Not so much a fan story but I came home from rehearsal once to find a ladies purse lying randomly near the front door. Noticed a handbag on the lawn and the side gate open. So I walked round to the back not knowing what the hell I would find and there’s some woman sitting on the deck with her back to me. I was expecting a scene from the exorcist to start playing out when I asked her what the f@#k she was doing...‘oh the cats’ she says, ‘they told me it was ok to come in’. Meeeoweee!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CONCERT MEMORY?

More of a funny moment but I remember our second gig when our drummer at the time Matt was using the venues house kit. The toms (which were being held together with gaffa tape) fell off their mount and onto our bass player Gav. That same gig I lost control of the vocals and did a huge testy pop, shortly followed by our guitarist Craig who snapped his G string...Needless to say he now wears boxers to the shows!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME AND LOGO?

Is it bad to admit we used an online band name generator? Hahaha...oh well, honesty is important to me! We struggled finding a name for ages until Facing Zero came up and it really grew on us. I feel it represents the emotive content and angst in our lyrics and music. We wanted the logo to be simple yet cool and with the help of a graphic designer I feel we were able to achieve that.  The cover of Megadeth’s - Countdown To Extinction was an inspiration for the cover art of FORSAKEN.

TELL US A RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT FANS DON’T KNOW?

Christian and I were both altar boys! Probably influenced us to become a badass rock stars, haha.

WHO WRITES THE MUSIC IN YOUR BAND OR DO YOU ALL WRITE IT TOGETHER?

Mostly myself but I have to give credit to Gav. He and I hooked up via a random message on myspace in 2009 (sounds like a bad dating story!). He had 4 or 5 songs fully written apart from lyrics. I found it challenging to write lyrics to those songs cause all they had were titles, so they ended up evolving a lot over time. Some songs like Primal Urge were a musical collaboration. More recently though I have taken the on the majority of writing duties. I even write some of the drum parts as that is often how the ideas begin in my head. Our drummer reckons I’m a pain in the arse!

IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY BAND, PERFORMING YOUR SONGS, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WOULD IT BE IN YOUR STYLE OR THEIRS?

It would be amazing to hear a band like Meshuggah or even Periphery cover a Facing Zero track like Forsaken in all their Djenty glory.

AS WE ARE PROMOTING YOUR BAND, IS THERE ANYTHING COMING UP LIKE ALBUM LAUNCHES OR TOUR DATES YOU WOULD LIKE US TO PROMOTE ON OUR SITE FOR YOU?

We have BIG plans for 2017 on the heels of our EP…… FORSAKEN.  Live Shows will be a plenty in amongst shooting our very own music video for our track UNDERDOG and the writing of BRAND NEW music with our new drummer Christian.  Details will be published on our Facebook page as they are confirmed and of course you can pick up FORSAKEN EP in CD and digital download formats along with some quality shirts from https://facingzero.bandcamp.com/
