We always played Pasukan Babi Neraka in our set on our last tour. Crowds go crazy to that song we have jump the fuck off ritual. Everyone Squats and one, .two, .three jumps together. It’s amazing. That song is about our fans they are called Pasukan Babi Neraka.

WHAT BANDS INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?

SA:

I listen to music from all around the world. From rock n roll to deathcore and ACDC to Whitechapel. Not only rock/ metal music. we listening Johnny Cash until Drake too. And I ‘m really Indonesian music like Burgerkill, Efek Rumah Kaca, The Sigit and others. But for our music Metallica, Machine Head, Hatebreed, Behemoth, Lamb of God, and now some djent and death core band like Meshuggah,Fallujah,Suicide Silence, Thy Art is Murder, and Whitechapel.

BAH JOJO (BJ):

Yeah of course, I listen to a lot of different music too. I listen to other genres of music not only metal like SA, we work in a company that produce a lot of different types of music. Latief is a music teacher (drum) he has a lot of music influences, and so do the rest of the band.

I think the most Important things is how we proceed our music style and how Down for life stays true to itself and the sound we are trying to produce.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG YOU HAVE WRITTEN?

SA:

One Town One Crown, Tech(no)logic, Liturgi Penyesatan and Pesta Partai Barbar from our latest album. Music and lyrics so straight and no compromise. That’s all about our lives in Indonesia, Situation of social, politic, religion what we feel in here.

BJ :

Of course all we have done is the finest. But I think Himne Perang Akhir Pekan is album that representing all new styles our music and combination between progress and technique.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW MUSIC COMING OUT IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

SA:

In april 2017 for Records Store Day, demajors will release our 7’ vinyl. Included 2 song unreleased before; Liturgi Penyesatan accoustic version and Kerangka Langit, it’s a cover song of Kaisar, Indonesian old hard rock band.

We are currently working on some material for our new album. We have already done 5 songs and will maybe produce 3 or 4 more before we’ll be going into the studio to record them.  We are Hoping for our new alubm to be released next year next year.

WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR LYRIC CHOICES?

SA:

For first album was like our anger what i felt and like introduced what we are. Second album more religious lyric, i put some symbol from Catholic ceremony and symbols. Holy bible was important for second album. Thats just like for package but main theme is meaning of life. Now for new album lyric more spiritual maybe..hahaha. Still angry but more wise. Now i read many books..from Eka Kurniawan, specially Man Tiger book’s, Haruki Murakami book’s, Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I think reading is better than writing hahaha.

BJ:

Yes,Angry is a maximal achievement of soul . But this day we choose a more spiritual angry… more deep soul that we can react. More talk to our self and wise from all of view.

WHAT’S YOUR CRAZIEST FAN STORY?

SA:

When we had tour in Central Java with Seringai in 2009, some fans gave us a pig statue that was carved from wood. Now we have 2 pig statues, and it’s creepy. We meet some of our fans, they have been our fans since they were very young and now they bring their children to our show which is pretty awesome! It feels like They growing old and I’m not hahaha.

HOW HAS YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC CHANGED FROM WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED?

SA:

Of course. The First time we played with the band we played old school and new school hard-core. Our style was European hardcore and NY style, like Agnostic Front mix Backfire. The band I played in before down for life, played old school so I got Sick of that style of music.

After that, we had the tour in East Java and some friends in Malang gave us some new music to listen to the bands include Morning Again, Arkangel, 100 Demons and evil core music including All Out War and Hatebreed. Now we have More metal riffs in our music.

After that we listened to New Wave American Heavy Metal music like Kill switch engaged, Unearth, absolutely, Lamb of God More, we listening metal before Hardcore or punk. Death metal music Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated gave us some influence. Now our music is heavier than it use to be. Some people called us a metal core band, some say death metal. But we think we just ordinary guys playing metal in hard-core band.

BJ:

I am a 90’s kid so we listened to Hard-core trash metal hero like Sepultura and Testament. This type of music has Fast riff distortion and bright high sound. We started the band with NY meeting European style which means our music is hard-core and fast and groove is the first choice. All Out War sound make our music so more metal then. The last we just ordinary guys playing metal in hard-core band.

WHO IS THE SONG WRITER IN YOUR BAND? OR DO YOU ALL WRITE IT TOGETHER?

SA:

Last album we always jammed in the studio together. Our ex guitarist, would  bring some guitar riffs for the songs as a basic guide line. But now is different, because Isa and I are living in different city and it’s too far away. Our guitarist, Rio with bassist and drummer compose some riffs at home, and then they record it and send it to the other members of the band.  I feel that Rio is more responsible for the new album.

BJ:

Yes now we are doing some new methods of song writing, Now Rio and Latief contribute a lot of their time to that. Then Isa and I fill it on the studio.

DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING GIGS?

SA:

We have our last show for this year in our home town, Solo on Dec 13. It’s going to be fun and awesome. We started and finished in our home town. We rarely play Solo, we only play solo 3 or 4 times in a year. We normally play in other cities around Indonesia.
