BLACK WATER RISING
VOCALS/GUITAR- ROB TRAYNOR
HOW DID YOUR FANS RESPOND TO YOUR NEW VIDEO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL?
The 'Dance With The Devil' video is from our last album Pissed And Driven and the fan reaction was really good. People seemed to like the concept of the devil always looking over your shoulder and trying to get you to do bad things…especially when the devil is portrayed by a beautiful girl! Also, the video featured some of our biggest fans in small roles and has a badass customized BWR '74 Chevy Nova in it. We wanted to include stuff we like and know our fan base would dig too!
WHAT BRAND INSTRUMENTS DO YOU USE?
We only use Gibson Les Pauls and SG guitars, Fender Jazz and Precision basses. We also use Marshall & Orange amps. I play a vintage Ludwig drum kit for recording and a Pearl set for live and touring. I also like Zildjian & Sabian cymbals and use Vic Firth sticks exclusively.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CONCERT MEMORY?
There are so many but I can tell you a personal favorite of mine was when we were on tour with Kill Devil Hill. We were playing our set and I looked over to to the side of the stage and Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath) and Rex Brown (Pantera) were watching us perform and were really getting into it. It's a great feeling to be validated by your musical heroes!
SO YOU JUST GOT SIGNED WITH PAVEMENT ENTERTAINMENT AND YOU ARE BRINGING OUT A NEW CD, WHAT DIRECTION IS YOUR NEW CD GOING IN?
We are psyched to be part of the Pavement family and the new album will be released this coming spring. The direction of the new material is pretty much the same as our first two albums. I believe we have a style and sound that is natural for us and I think our fans wouldn't want it any other way!
WHAT’S YOUR CRAZIEST FAN STORY?
We have some dedicated fans who do things like get tattoos of our logo or drive 8 hours to see us play. One girl completely customized her motorcycle with art from our debut and another hand painted our logo on the hood of her car and wrote "Pissed And Driven" across the windshield…coincidently, that's the car we used in our video. We love our fans and probably wouldn't still be doing this without their support!
HOW DID YOUR BAND FORM? AND WHO DECIDED WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC YOU WERE GOING TO PLAY?
Rob (Traynor) was coming off his last band Dust To Dust when he went into his studio and wrote new material that became the seeds of BWR. I knew Rob from back in the day and since my band Boiler Room also had broken up, Rob called me to check out the new stuff. I loved it so we went into the studio and recorded drum tracks. We looked for a second guitar player and found John from Stereomud and he brought in our bass player Oddie. John has since left the band but that's a brief history of how BWR started.
HAVE YOU CHANGED ANY MEMBERS SCIENCE YOU FIRST STARTED?
We've changed one member since we first got together. Our original guitarist left the band and we replaced him with Dennis Kimak whose been with us for about 5 years now.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UP COMING GIGS?
We don't have any shows lined up right now as we're focused on finishing up the new record. We plan to get out there on tour in the new year and continue building BWR one brick at a time. We're a grass roots band and wouldn't want it any other way!
DO YOU HAVE ANY CDS/MERCHANDISE FOR SALE AND WHERE CAN YOUR FANS BUY IT?
You can find BWR merch and CD's at our website store. Go to www.blackwaterrising.com
