2017 has been a good year for music. With many bands producing new and much anticipated albums; now we can add another to the list! Alice Cooper, one of the true originals of rock music just released his 27th studio album “Paranormal” and it’s a smash hit right up with other albums such as “School’s Out” or “Billion Dollar Babies”.

This is Alice’s first studio album in six years and as an added bonus; it features two tracks on the second disk (or D side for vinyl listeners) performed by the original Alice Cooper band! That’s right, the Godfather of ‘Shock Rock’ brought back his original band to play on his latest album and they did not disappoint! The tracks that feature the original band are “Genuine American Girl” and “You and all Your Friends”. These tracks bring back the sound of the 70’s that we are all familiar with from Alice from songs like “Schools Out” and “I’m Eighteen” that we love. In a recent interview, Alice described reuniting with the original members Mike Bruce, Dennis Dunaway and Neal Smith “felt normal to me”.

One of the notable names on this album would have to be that of producer Bob Ezrin, who has worked with Cooper as well as many other well-known musicians on many studio albums. Other notable names are the guest musicians. On this Album Alice welcomed Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover to play on the opening track “Paranormal”, and ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons on the bluesy sounding track “Fallen in Love”

Unlike many other bands that have evolved their sound over time, this new album from Alice shows a strong blues element that has been ever-present in his music. Using techniques such as a strong back beat on the drums (played by Glen Sobel), a walking bass line (played by Chuck Garric), heavy rhythm guitar presence (played by Tommy Henrickson and Nita Strauss), a wailing lead guitar (played by Ryan Roxie), and of course the rough yet melodic vocals of Alice.

This new album is consists of twelve new and highly original songs that Alice personally described as “Twelve  great episodes of the twilight zone, each song tells its own twisted little tale”, as well as six live tracks that were recorded in Columbus, Ohio on May 6th 2016 with the present-day Alice Cooper band.

As the album was released, Australia already had a case of Shock Rock Fever, as it gears up for Alice’s Australian leg of the tour in October. The album itself spent seven days on the Australian albums chart list and sat in the top twenty-five for five days.

This album is a wild ride from start to finish and just like one of Alice Coopers concerts it pulls you into the car, locks in the straps, and takes off on the rollercoaster! We look forward to Alice gracing the shores of Australia once more and for all he has to bring!
